   I thought I would write a little about one of my new artistic loves,
   mobile art. What is mobile art? Essentially, it is any type of art made
   on a mobile device. The beauty of using a mobile device for artmaking I
   have found is that you can make it anywhere, anytime. This discovery
   has spawned many nearly 24hr art making benders over the last year or
   so.(It’s really the best thing ever!) The other thing that is so
   fantastic about mobile art making is how accessible it is for anyone and
   everyone at any skill level. There are, for instance, many painting and
   sketching apps that can be used for anything from smiley face doodles
   to extremely detailed portraiture. There are also many photography apps
   which have fast become my current obsession. Not only are there an
   insane variety of ‘picture taking’ apps, but a virtually unlimited
   array of photo editing apps as well. Photo editing apps are what really
   have prompted a huge electrifying surge of creative inspiration for me
   this last year. What started out as some simple playing soon
   transformed into complex and intricate layering/painting systems which
   I derived from using many different apps and saved versions in a photo,
   combining elements from many sources into one single image. This has
   led to me delving more into photography, encaustics and other
   multimedia cross-disciplinary experimentation this past year. I was
   even fortunate enough to have one of my mobile art pieces selected for
   inclusion in the largest mobile photography show to date, which
   displayed in several art galleries in San Francisco and Orange County
   this year. So, I thought I might end with noting a few of my favorite
   iphone/ipad apps for art making purposes just in case you are itching
   to get started on some serious art making marathons. (if you don’t have
   an iphone/ipad there may be apps available for your mobile device that
   are the same or similar to the ones listed below.)

   1. I will probably always be a painter at heart so my first favorite
   app is brushes. It is great fun has fantastic control and a nice
   selection of brushes. It also outputs at a very high resolution which
   is great if you want to print some giant canvases of your creations.

   2. Pictureshow- if I was only going to get one photo app this would
   probably be it. There are many filters, light leaks, and borders, which
   allow you to create images which mimic film processes and create very
   unique looking pictures. There are also options for
   contrast/brightness, vignette, and controlled blur effects.

   3. Hipstamatic-So fun! This app mimics various films, lenses, and
   flashes, giving you hours and hours of creative exploration potential.
